The Pitter Patter of Little FF Feet....

Exciting News People! I'm 28 weeks pregnant and am having a baby in March!
I know. I'm really really happy too. I already know if it's a boy or girl. I don't know how people can stand not knowing. And I absolutely love being pregnant. Who knew? Every one's been asking when I would announce it on the blog, and I've always said "never!" but it just somehow seems like the right time now. Plus I've been looking back at all my posts for the past year and I've decided that I'd like a record of the last part of Pregnancy-gate. I cannot wait to meet my baby and to see its little face! I'll give you my thoughts on the Utter Vileness of "Maternity Wear" in the near future (For the Uninitiated, they are the Devil's Finest Work- not silk, not lined and no side pockets. Nothing. Shocking.)

  20. I have been reading from the start but have only commented once before but absolutely feel now that I must comment! Congratulations, I am so happy for you & Mr FF!! Even worse than maternity clothes is after the baby is born & you then have to wear breastfeeding friendly clothing (if you go down that route) as most dresses are completely impractical - very, very annoying! I have a 6 month old who is breastfed & am still frustrated everyday about lack of clothing options.

Oh, such wonderful news!!! I'm thrilled for you, and you're going to be such a great Mum! How did you ever manage to keept his to yourself??

Maternity wear indeed sucketh. Though it was 14 years ago now, I wound up living in some stuff called (I think) Belly Basics that were plain knit jersey pieces. I also wore one of my husband's white shirts over the knit skirt or leggings. Too much of standard "maternity" wear is far too cutesy.

    ReplyDelete
  74. oh that's wonderful! congrats to you and Mr. FF! xo

    ReplyDelete
  86. Dear FF- This is such fab news!! Am thrilled for you- maternity clothes are terrible- I wore nothing "maternity" during 2 pregnancies... I know Maxi dresses aren't really your thing and I would never wear one in "real" life however they are incredibly flattering with a bump- as long as you belt them on the top of the bump- otherwise you look like you are smuggling things! I had my little girl Sophie in March 2010 and wore one during the height of hideous 40 weather. Dresses are perfect for a summer pregnancy- Our Mary did a lovely line in maternity dresses too I referenced her a lot. Am so so thrilled for you- babies are the best!! OZJANE

    ReplyDelete
  87. Oh and my nails are painted frequently and my hair is done too- so do not fret... there will always be time for good grooming even with a newborn.. mine spent time in a bouncer on the floor of my bathroom each morning so I could feel like me!! OZJANE

  93. Woot!!

    How totally and utterly exciting!

Maternity wear truly is the devil's work. I stubbornly refused to buy any apart from jeans through 3 pregnancies.

Huge congrats and looking forward to hearing more pregnancy related posts!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Congratulations to you both, it really is a wonderful time isn't it. I remember very well the anticipation and excitement of getting to meet the little person growing inside. Then the overwhelming feeling of Love and Adoration when you do get to meet and hold your little one for the very first time is amazing. I agree with maternity wear being Vile and would you believe that it has come such a long way since 1990 - for the better! I know, you can't imagine the vileness we had to wear back then. Congratulations again on Baby FF, take care and stay well. Cheers Robyn

  95. Congratulations FF! If only I'd known as I had some lovely vintage maternity smocks (hahaha)in stock though now sold phew! I am now amazed at your frequents posts about food in the early months as my Australian daughter (currently 39 weeks pregnant), had a very delicate digestion for most of the time, rather like me. Very glad to hear that you are doing well and enjoying your pregnancy. Sending very best wishes to you and Mr FF.x

  100. Well that brought all of us "long time reader first time posters" out of the woodwork didn't it? I think "beach bum mum" has summed it up pretty well! Congratulations & get thee to Mamas home at Windsor for your maternity wear (likely heavily discounted at the moment too!)

  111. That is wonderful!! I'm so, so, so, so happy for you!!

  112. Great news FF, congratulations! Your lives are about to change forever in a fantastic way. Nothing compares.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Bravo to you and Mr FF and all the very best for the next few months (the maths of the number of weeks left escaped me in my post Christmas torpor!)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Congratulations FF! Amazing News.
Even the tone of your writing changed in that post, so I can tell that you are thrilled yourself.

Do not worry about Maternity wear! I didn't buy ANY! Long flowy tops (very MB), leggings or skirts, long dresses and flat shoes are what I wore. And I looked back to your previous recent postings and there is a lack of a bump! So you might be as lucky as I was and remain tiny :)

One word of warning... after the birth you will need to up the ante on your hair care (because now I know you like to keep it lovely) pregnancy makes it beautiful... after the birth it does not :(

    Congratulations!

  115. If ever there were news that is 12/10, this is it! Congratulations to you and Mr. FF!

  116. Congratulations to you and Mr FF .. wonderful news! You need to find a lady who sews. I made myself some very jazzy outfits when I was pregnant - bright colours, silks, beadwork (and get pockets put into the sides!). Think of the dresses that suit you best and have a similar style made but with more room. And surely Princess Mary will share some of hers seeing she's such an avid reader!

  124. Dear Ms FF, You know how delighted we are for you and Mr FF. Such lovely lovely news. I cannot imagine a more loved baby than Baby FF will be. I don't know very much about boys but Mrs Blighty can give you the good oil on boys, their habits and inclinations. But I am happy to lend you my girls whenever you need a hit of girliness. I agree about the yuckiness of most maternity wear. Have you thought about commandeering some of Mr FF's more beautiful shirts to wear over trousers with some lovely Red Phoenix beads on top? It might persuade Mr FF to up your allowance on designer dresses that can go from maternity to post maternity wear à la that By Marlene Birger frock which Princess Mary (I think the caption was Baby Shock! - how apt!) also bought after seeing it on you. But please please tell what Santa got for you? Mr LiC needs to know!!!!!! love Linda and the girlsxxx

  125. Thank you to everyone who has left a comment- I got a bit teary reading all the sweet messages.

A lot of the photos I've posted in recent weeks have been recycled from this time last year because I didn't want to say I was pregnant at the time.

I did lots of sneaky photography when I was in Europe and Honkers but I was hardly showing then anyway, I think I was about 19 weeks to 21 or 22 weeks which is about 5 months in the Old Money.

I am very excited so thank you to every one who took the time to comment.

  136. Congratulations!!! This is wonderful news!

And you know nothing about bad maternity wear...the maternity dresses (mostly Laura Ashley) that I had to wear in 1983 when I was pregnant with my son, were just hideous. I still bear the mental scars.

You will be the most chic pregnant lady ever.

  141. Congratulations FF and Mr FF. I too have been reading for a while but have never posted a message. My husband said a couple of weeks ago 'I saw FF in the street and she is pregnant.' I said 'no, there is nothing on the blog. It must have been a flowing dress.' He is very happy now that he was right!

Maternity clothes are the pits, especially for work. My baby is one this week and this time last year I was wearing a lot of Isabella Oliver from the UK website. EGG seems to do the best things in Brisbane if you have to go down that road.

What an exciting year you have ahead of you. Let's see the bump now. I had been wondering about the recycled photos!

  146. Congrats FF!!!!! Thats so very, very exciting! Wow.

I have heard pregnancy attire can be pretty awful, you may want to check out the new Catriona Rowntree pregnancy range at Target, it's actually not half bad.

    All the best! x

  148. Congratulations to you and Mr FF!
    What utterly lovely news.
(I did have a suspicion, with the floaty Malene Birger dress worn by Princess Mary and the lack of current photos of you under your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, though!)
Wishing you all the joy, health and happiness in the world,
    Cxx
PS - I know what you mean about maternity fashion! I have been pregnant four times and got through with barely any maternity purchases at all - just some maternity skinny-leg jeans/pants and a stretch skirt that you had to cover the top of. The challenge was to find frocks & "baby doll" blouses and long knits (that Malene Birger black knit frock that you purchased from Outnet will be perfect!) You are so stylish, you will do it! (and have the perfect stylish pregnant lady to take your cue from in Princess Mary!...wonder if she will ever comment on your blog????)

  152. Dear FF, I can't recall a posting that I have been thinking about for days like your last posting. Your life will change in so many ways and we - your followers - got to know parts of your life since last december. I can't wait to see how your house will change. Which room is going to be Baby FF's room or will you move to a bigger house? I can't imagine you leaving your flowers behind.
Looking back at the photos in december and november there would be only 1 picutre where one could assume your cup-size got bigger. But maybe this one photo is an old photo like the others, too ;-)

  153. Wow - just got back from Christmas in the UK to read your wonderful news! Congratulations!!! You and your hubby must be over the moon - I hope you'll keep us posted on your progress. It's so lovely to be pregnant at Christmastime - both my boys were born in March too.

  154. Dearest F.F.
I am SO very happy for you and Mr. F.F.!!!
You are about to embark on the GRANDEST adventure of all- so lucky!
I wish you smooth sailing all the way to the end of this part of the journey.

and P.S. If you think maternity clothes are hideous now, imagine what they were like 20 years ago!

Happy Holidays to you and YOURS
    xxxx
    S.P.

Oh, P.P.S. I'm probably not alone here, just the only one demented enough to say it...if your hands get really swollen and end up looking like catcher's mitts, can you share a pic or two? It would make me feel better. If nail polish is chipped, even better :)

  156. Hi FF
Everyone has said it all already....congratulations! It does feel funny being happy for someone I don't actually know in person, but I reiterate all the best wishes that have already been posted!!
Ditto on the Utter Vileness of Maternity Wear - I struggled in both my pregnancies to find clothes I liked. Two words for you...black tights. Buy heaps of them and you can wear them after as well. Go to Mama's Home at Windsor or Cocoon on Latrobe Tce. Give EGG at Southbank a miss - I found their stuff to be poorly sized and too much polyester!!
    Keep us posted!

  159. Congratulations FF! Szabo usually has some silk in their maternity range, but of course with limited prints/colours. I saw some silk Pucci fabric (in blue) on sale at Alla Moda the other day, in case you want to whip up something yourself. Daisy

But on a serious note;) when my sister took my dear niece (now 30 years old) to her first checkup at what 3 months?, the doctor exclaimed that he had NEVER seen a 3 month old with painted nails!! My sister, who had three BOYS at home, had been waiting for a girl for a loooong time!!:):)

  182. FF, I am so happy for you. Congratulations and all the best. I am of your vintage, and it's easy to think that I'm too old to be able to have a baby now. Thanks for bringing hope back to me and bringing a smile on my face, I have just had a terrible fight with the boyfriend.

  183. Dear N,
I'm in my late 30s-it's not too late. If being a mum is important to you, take action and get started on you journey now. A lot of my girlfriends who don't have kids are inspired by my pregnancy and hopeful because I am no spring chicken. I'm a big believer in fate and things working out as they are meant to-good luck with your own journey x
