Was so tempted to wear Hunter wellies to the Coalface today because it was positively Monsoonal.
Had to action a rain proof hairstyle with about 3 kilos of super strong lacquer.
Luff this scarf. Bought it with my sister in Jersey in the Channel Islands in November 2010 when I was pregnant. Wore it to St Malo in Brittany. It was pouring with rain then too. And freezing.
My kid's been wearing hand me downs from my sisters' children since birth but sometimes I live on the edge and buy new things for him. Target's having 20% off children's clothes if you're in the market.
Apparently Jackie Kennedy had her servants change her sheets every day.
Wish I could get Mrs Danvers to do this for me.
If only she wasn't Fictitious.
The Universe directed me to action a loaf cake tonight. I did as I was told.
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees, grease and flour you pan and mix 175g butter, 150g castor sugar, 175g flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 3 eggs, 2 tbsp ground almond meal and vanilla.
Shove in the oven for about 45 minutes.
Let it sit for 10 minutes then turn it out.
Apply to face.
It's Plain, but Good.
Just the sort of thing to eat while you're watching the Real Housewives of Bev Hills.
I luffed Lisa and Ken's new home. Postage stamp sized it wasn't. And don't get me started on her fancy walk in wardrobe arrangement.
I've been meaning to mend and hem a bunch of unwearable clothes for ages and tonight I pulled out the machine and made a start. Finally. Wish I'd done it months ago.
Anything you've been putting off?
xxxx

St Malo is lovely, no matter what the weather's doing. Such a pretty scarf. So jealous that you're getting the new season RHOBH - I love that show.Love the questions Andy asks them at the end of each season! Cringefest!
ReplyDeleteI need to add one half of a velcro tab to my heritage umbrella closure. I bought that umbrella from Myers in 1989 and it's a great umbrella in good working order but half the velcro came away ten years ago. I finally bought some replacement velcro on Friday (for 20 cents! I didn't think you could buy anything for 20 cents). Still putting it off.
ReplyDeleteHi FF,
ReplyDeleteI do love your brooches. I remember when I was young a brooch would complete a special outfit. More people should wear them.
I think the type of clothes you can get for kids at Target these days (compared with even 10 years ago) is eggcellent. I am constantly impressed by the sweet ensembles I see on my sisters' kids. Someone told me it all changed when they put a woman in charge of the buying there. I believe it!
I love Lisa & Ken on RHOBH, I like that they stick up for Brandi when it's not popular with anyone else. Yolanda is quite growing on me too. I must 'fess, I've become quite addicted to Vanderpump Rules too.
I've being putting off cleaning my windows but after your good work on the w/end I am going to buy some of those magic wipe thingies and do it before the weeks out!
Nx
that's interesting ..can they get some women into re arrange my local Woolies and Coles
DeleteFF,
ReplyDeleteI've told you before, I'm a procrastinator. The thing I'm putting off right this second is my taxes. They are due by 4/15. I figure about this time next week my hubby will start harassing me about getting them done. By done I mean assembling the paperwork for our accountant. Hate this task, but must be done.
Sheri - make the appointment with the accountant and then work to that date! Much easier! Lindaxxx
DeleteI've been putting off a big wardrobe clearance and charity shop run. I must stop procrastinating!
ReplyDeleteI constantly put off sorting my mail. I give it a brief look-over when it arrives and pull out important things. The rest hits the "I'll look at it later" pile and later keeps stretching into the future. I suppose I should make a Spring Resolution since I don't go for the New Year's Resolutions as much and just resolve to take care of the pile of mail. Sigh.
ReplyDelete"Apply to face." You crack me up!! Thank the Universe for Target!! I always go to Target first when our son needs something. He's having a monster growth spurt (in more ways than one) right now and we picked him up a new bathing suit over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteYes! Just finished catching up on three months of filing (home files). I adore your scarf and recall it well.
ReplyDeleteIt's raining here (Virginia), but I suppose that's less trouble than the snow that was forecast.
ReplyDeleteIf possible, get you hands on some Living Proof products; I stumbled onto it when it first came on the market here, and I cling to it for dear life. It has made my hair impervious to rain, humidity---nature in general. (Cleansing conditioner is also a wonder.) Living Proof was created by scientists at MIT; the first time I used it, I was amazed that the products weren't gloopy or heavy. It was summer in the South, so there was a thunderstorm in the late afternoon. I'd had to attend an editorial mtg in DC, and when I left, it was like walking through a sauna. Imagine my surprise when I glanced in the mirror when I got home and saw my hair looked just as it had when I'd left the house that morning. Amazing, amazing stuff.
Love the pink of your jacket---that kind of thing can just make my day.
So impressed that scientists at MIT have put their minds to this! was it for use in the space shuttle or something?!
DeleteWill be looking for these products!
Hi,
DeleteAlas no, it wasn't done for NASA. I have a friend who works at NASA-Goddard Space Ctr. and he told me space travel & the station are pretty awful scent wise. Weightlessness makes keeping people/things clean and sweet smelling tricky.
Living Proof products are great. They have a big site now.
I've seen those products at Sephora, and never bought them because they seemed quite expensive. But as a frizzy-haired woman in a normally humid climate, I might have to give them a go!
Delete---Jill Ann
I finally started decluttering the spare bedroom...got through almost half of the junk on the weekend. Paper clutter is the worst!!
ReplyDeleteYou would love Lisa's restaurant Villa Blanca, it is lovely. Lisa and Ken are the best! Those two together with Brandi crack me up.
Oh, you're so lucky to have up-to-date episodes of the RHBH ; in France, they gave us the 1st series 3 times and then, pfft .. Can't wait to see Lisa's new home; she and her husband are my favourite couple in the program !x
ReplyDeleteI'm avoiding my hand washing. It's a shame because it is all my most favourite clothes, and I know have a big pile... Must. Get. To. It.
ReplyDeleteDear FF
ReplyDeleteI actually thought of you yesterday, quite random it was.
I was ordering some make-up from Strawberrynet and as I added a bottle of Fidgi by Guy Laroche, thought to myself, FF likes an old school perfume, wonder if she likes Fidgi.
Harking back to comments from a few posts back, the ads and constant repeats on Foxtel are driving me insane.
Nothing beats sleeping in fresh, clean sheets...especially straight off the clothes line.Mmm heaven!
ReplyDeleteThat outfit looks perfect for traipsing around smelling the flowers in an unpredictable climate! Target is great for little boy basics....if you keep your eyes peeled you can find amazing things....I bought my five year old a Rolling Stones tee shirt now he just needs to sing along! Oh, and cake too...delish! Rx
ReplyDeleteDear Ms FF, Freshly ironed sheets gently scented with lavender every day would be rather nice, except coming from a drought mentality I would feel guilty about the waste of water. Damn social responsibility! I was looking at all the baby stuff in Target on the weekend and felt a pang, remembering when my girls were all softly padded bottoms and curled up like a size 16 frozen chook. Still, any day now I am expecting a nephew! Too exciting! I am a terrible procrastinator. Often, it is filing. At the moment, the papers take up half the dining table and look alternatively threatening or sulky. love Lindaxxx
ReplyDeleteI love the YSL scarf ring...or is it a hairband? My 13 month old loves "in the night garden" too...esp the Tombliboos! I don't mind the rain but my hair gets so frizzy...
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched RHBH for ages, and I used to be a stalwart. I rather like Ken and his English ways, keep things to yourself and all that.
ReplyDeletePutting things off where to start? major issue is the damp wall in my kitchen due to bad workmanship before I even bought the place..long story and even longer route to Fair Trading
Gorgeous combo FF. I like that monkey shirt too. It suits your cheeky little cushion monkey.
ReplyDeleteI take my friend clothes shopping at Target at the start of each season (she's a Super Frugal Shopper) and I select a number of great pieces for her. She wears them to do the school drop-off and all the other mums rave about her outfits and can't believe that they're from Target. You have to have an open-mind and keen eyes when panning for gold...as well you know ;)
Best, BB from Melbourne X
While you have your machine out, perhaps you could hem a pair of pants for me?
ReplyDeleteI have been toting them around for years!
I am about to put a loaf of bread in the oven...it is the first time I have made bread on my own...previously I was always supervised by my grandmother!
Enjoy the sun today!
It is such a joy to see someone taking so much trouble with their work clothes. Your outfit for the coalface today was superior & luff the scarf. My daughter is wearing my Liberty scarves from back in the day when I worked in London. She also 'borrowed' my Mary Quant scarves as well as my Burberry coat.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in the City yesterday (Sydney) I saw so much bare flesh, thongs, ripped jeans, ripped shorts with pockets hanging down, messy & dirty hair, etc. Such a shame that standards have slipped so much, don't you agree?
Looking forward to the Oscars ceremony and Red Carpet arrivals next week. Plan to spend the whole day watching TV while actioning some cooking. Might even try one of your recipes - that cake looks good.
Hope you're having a good day today FF.

Lorraine, I always love your posts! You talk such sense.
DeleteI agree, rubber thongs have no place outside of a beach. As for bare flesh, dirty hair, ripped jeans... Well, is there ever a place for them??? I always feel good grooming is as much for others as it is for oneself. I always love seeing well-groomed people and appreciate their effort. Makes my day!
Stephanie
Thank you Stephanie.

I am glad I am not alone on the procrastination over mending. Sadly, I think I am quite deft with the needle and cotton but, in reality, I am really bad and just ruin stuff. But I will never give up, practice makes perfect and all that.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely putting off cleaning the oven - yuk!
ReplyDeletecall ovenu!
DeleteThanks FF , advice I am happy to get onto.
DeleteOoooh, I want to see your rain/drought/flood/pestilence/plague proof 'do, which would no doubt be superior.
ReplyDeleteI have been putting off tidying out my spare room aka decluttering. I have SO. MUCH. JUNK.
I need to get into it. This heat here in Melbourne has rendered me helpless.
When I apply cake to my face, I may as well just be applying it to my bum/thighs etc. But I luff cake, and chocolate.
cilla xx
I am definitely putting off cleaning the oven - yuk!
ReplyDeleteDear FF,
ReplyDeleteAgain I am amazed by your post today. Faux twins we are - except I am overweight, over sixty and overseas! Most of your likes and dislikes are so like mine it is uncanny. I hate eggs, love pink, the Mitfords, Downton, Pucci, great accessories, major hair, entertaining, and too many others to describe here. My daughters gifted me Lisa Vanderpump's book for Christmas of 2011. It is a very pretty coffee table book. I saw her during the taping of a talk show here in California. She looks much the same as she does on the show; her face shows no sign of movement and she brought Giggy with her to entertain all of us. I gave up reality tv for Lent so haven't seen this season of RHOBH. It's a sacrifice! Procrastination is not really my thing with the exception of some paperwork. Most of the time I like to get on with it because I feel much better when I do. Here's hoping the rain lets up in your city; it is also pouring here and we are supposed to have lightning during the next few hours.
Stay dry!
XOXO BlondEgirl aka LCF
I've been putting off taking in or re hemming (i'm vertically challenged) a whole heap of clothes that I bought last year. I used to like sewing but I just can't stand the sight of the sewing machine these days. Everytime I get the machine out, I end up having to mend my husband's favourite shorts/shirts/pants or the kiddies clothes too. HA HA
ReplyDeleteMy Chubster lives in pre loved clothing. A lot of his clothing has actually done a couple of rounds already. I passed a lot of my first born clothes onto friends and only kept my favourite in case I had another boy. My friends' kids wore the clothes and when they found out I was expecting another boy, the clothes that didn't get trashed made their way back to me. I actually look at those clothes as being lucky. They've seen a lot of kids happy. :)
Imagine the dizzy world of fresh sheets every day, bliss. I suppose us with out help have to soldier on and endure the end of week sheets.
ReplyDeleteAnything tax related is usually quite far down my action list.
Luff your scarf too.
I am super jealous of your rain. We haven't had any rain of note since late September. I like that you're not afraid to mix your designers. xx
ReplyDeleteHi FF
ReplyDeleteJust looking at your blog makes me happy
Kind Regards
Karen
Oh I make putting things off into an artform. Although I'm not as bad as my husband. Procrastinators from way back xx
ReplyDeleteDear FF,
ReplyDeleteMy daughter Felicity, has just introduced me to your blog. Im in love with it. Thankyou so much for creating it.
My life at the moment is very chaotic, but your words, photos hints and fashion give some kind of calm...
