 Happy Australia Day. Food's always crucial on national days of celebration-what've you eaten? 

Being Joiners, we had a barbecue.

Actioned a pavlova. Would've been Un-Australian not to.

I was going to potter in the garden, but then I clapped eyes on this Old Testament Style Serpent slithering about the traps so I re-thought my plans. Fingers and Toes it's a harmless tree snake.

And in other Old Testament Varmint Developments a flying fox met a grisly end on the overhead electricity wires outside my home. I know. I was confronted too. So I called Energex to see if they could send someone to remove its poor decaying dead body and within 5, yes 5 minutes of making the call an Energex truck pulled up and a cheerful man wielding a what could only be described as a very long pole removed it. 

He must have been circling the block just waiting for such a call. Talk about excellent service.

It almost makes me want to forgive them for their exorbitant electricity prices. 

Almost.

 I loved this book and today I watched the doco Scatter my Ashes at Bergdorfs. It borrows heavily from  the Bill Cunningham New York school of doco  with lots of interesting eccentric characters, amusing anecdotes, flashbacks and gorgeous clothes. I give it 5 stars. I've only been there once, back in 2003. I remember it as being very glamorous. The shoe salon was amazing and the people watching was 11/10.

 I found Tamera Beardsley's blog last year. She embraces accessories, sequins, turbans, hats and  big hair and lives in a particularly beautiful part of the world. You can see  her blog here. Enjoy.

 I saw Philomena and cannot stop thinking about it. Judi Dench and Steve Coogan were both excellent. I think he might've written the screen play. Being an unwed mother and indentured servant in a convent in Ireland in the 1950s was an awful predicament. It's a harrowing and sad story, but a really good 5 star movie.
