I 'spose I'll have to turn my mind to Easter soon.
But before that I'll turn my mind to the fact that Old Anna has put Old Kim on the cover of American Vogue. Look I never pretended this was a blog about World Peace.
Lots of people say they'll unsubscribe in protest. I've got a subscription but I'm not going to cancel it.
Are you?
Remember back in the day you had to order it in specially from a newsagent and it arrived about 2 months late? Anyway last night Kim and Anna did Dinner. Kim wore this:
and Anna wore this (is it Prada?)
Meanwhile these two have split-
I'm no expert but I don't think either will be single for long
Who's going to buy this vaguely 1920s Downtown Abbey style sparkletastic frock arrangement from Asos? Anyone?
Last night I, like Kim and Anna did Dinner.
Wore this old See by Chloe number from a million years ago.
Thank you for your sweet birthday wishes for my little boy. It seems so recent that he was this size:
And Don't bother trying to source your quinces at Woolworths Ashgrove People.
I've bought them out.
I'm not going to apologise either. It's every woman for herself when it comes to Quince
I am hardcore loving the 1980s version of Love in a Cold Climate and would recommend it to any Mitford Fan. It makes me sad that I've only got a few episodes left. My friend P (you know, the one I met in the Chanel concession in Bon Marche in Paris last year) is going to Paris soon and wanted to know Nancy's address. It's 7 Rue Monsiuer in the 7th. Think of me when you see it P!
Meanwhile the garden is luffing this rain sick. Sick I tell you.
It's the sort of weather that's conducive to ironing
and ark building, and actioning veal casseroles and other affiliated braised products
It is not however good weather for my hair or to be using Public Transport in.
On a happier note, B, I love my Bee towel! Thank you!!
Tabitha put this frock on her blog. Suffice to say I love it and all its Feathery Glory.
Bone Tired? Burning the Candle at both ends? Me too. When will it end?
xxxxx

I don't have a US Vogue subscription but I won't buy anything with a Kardashian on it. Also, I'm going to sound nana-ish but that dress of her needs a slip under it! I do like Anna's coat though.
ReplyDeleteToo humid here in Sydney - longing for some cold weather!
Good on you for taking charge, quince-wise!
Dear FF
DeleteAre you serious? Or pulling our legs! KK and Anna had dinner together in those outfits? Surely a joke?! Agree with MissA about the shocking lack of petticoat. Really we don't need to see Kim's undies. What was she thinking! So trashy. Don't know how old Anna could abide sitting across a table from her. Don't subscribe to US Vogue so can't un.
Can't wait to pay a visit to the street where Nancy lived! Many thanks dear FF for the number.
Once a v long time ago I had a white dress rather like Tabitha's black tulle and feathers. Bought in Brissie of ages past. Just didn't have feathers on the sleeves. Loved swanning around in it. But didn't seem to be quite the thing to wear to Cambridge college dinners and sherry evenings so had to give it up. Felt too conspicuous and not serious enough. The old dons kept adjusting their glasses and frowning.
Everything looks so beautiful in the Fuchsiadome and garden. Also loved the red dress with black lace. Have a lovely weekend (we're almost there!). Pammie xxx
It's Mother's Day here on Sunday, when does it fall in Australia?
ReplyDeleteMum is getting awfully old and shaky, she can barely manage trips out now, so we are all making the most of this one.
That feathery frock is the best deployment I have seen for the sheer trend!
ReplyDelete11/10 x
DeleteI have ipad subscription and when it runs out I doubt it will get renewed. I clung on for old times sake but what killed it was when I saw even Grace helping on the shoot and smiling...I love English 80's drama - have you seen upstairs downstairs? That was THE show and downton pales in comparison! But I don't understand what you do with all that quince?? xx
ReplyDeleteI eat it and force it upon others x
DeleteI shall unsubscribe to Vogue, just as soon as I muster the energy to ring their US phone number that only operates between certain hours of the (Australian) night. Too many celebrities, not enough fashion.
ReplyDeleteYou are wrong about Gwennie and Chris - they've not separated/ divorcing, they've Consciously Uncoupled. It's all very new age and makes for an informative blog post on her Goop site.
I shall fight you for that feathery dress.
Saw your next watch on pinterest. I know you're not in the market, but you always need a bee jewelled Cartier dress watch for going out, no? http://www.pinterest.com/pin/235031674278252938/ xx
I will only act consciously with my future conduct! x
DeleteFF - I like the Kardashians (most of my friends are appalled by this but I don't care - I think they are fab) so I like the cover. I am really sad about Gwyneth and Chris but hopefully they will both find happiness. LOVE Ashgrove Woolworths; it is where I shop. Have you been to Billy's the butcher around the corner? Their service is excellent. Love the rain but feel sorry for our 10 week old puppy who wants to go out and play xx
ReplyDeleteBilly is THE BEST!!!!!!
DeleteBone tired FF...looking forward to the Easter Break!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't cancel a vogue subscription because Kim K was on it...but I do think it's an odd choice of photo.im sick of seeing those two in lusty embrace,it's a bit on the trashy side.i don't know why Kanye is on there?its like Brad Pitt for Chanel????
Not impressed with the cover shot,it almost looks like a bridal magazine!
Not a winning choice by Anna
Thanks for the Goss!
X A
Brad for Chanel!! that was crazy!
DeleteI did so much quince chopping on the weekend I got myself a blister. I am now enjoying the fruits of that labour on my breakfast and in the form of an upside down quince and ginger cake.
ReplyDeleteI wish the rain was inspiring me to do the ironing, I have so much sitting there right in front of me that must be done and yet no enthusiasm for it. It has been gorgeous having a couple of days of rain here in Canberra.
What are your favourite easter eggs? I love the moser roth ones from Aldi. The praline ones are the best.
Upside down quince and ginger sounds inspired!
DeleteIt is this recipe just with quince instead of pears. REALLY yummy. http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/19740/pear+and+ginger+upside+down+cake
DeleteI shouted out loud, 'No, Kim!' when I saw that slip- less frock popping out to dinner with Anna. I frightened Mr Fascinata and our two dogs. Xx
ReplyDeleteha!
DeleteNot a fan of the awkward looking vogue cover, don't get me started on the whole 'conscious uncoupling' concept and as for this rain? My hair has officially morphed into a frizzy Kath & Kim inspired perm. Please pass the wine....
ReplyDeletehair is ruined x
DeleteSuch good gossip!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise that G and C had split!
I am kind of surprised that K and K are still together.
What did you think of the Ashgrove Woolies?
Are you a convert now?
So much better than dreary Paddington!
I was forced out into the rain today by a rambunctious toddler and an equally rambunctious dog.
My hair is not looking the better for it.
Can we go to a health retreat sometime soon?
And sleep and get massages and sleep some more.
The BEST Woollies ever is Coorparoo. Great deli, lovely staff, huge selection of fruit and vegies, big wide isles and a lovely Merlo coffee shop to treat yourself to, even before you start!
DeleteA recent NW cover featuring KKs "out of control" butt was more amusing.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile it seems Gwennie got sick of listening to Coldplay as you would.
ha! I like coldplay!
DeleteConsciously uncoupling? Gwyneth needs to keep that gob shut.
ReplyDeleteI don't read vogue but it seems to be going the way of everything else. KK looks pretty but that's about it.
Ha re Gwynnie x
DeleteI still want to know where you get the ultra cheap subscription from. I think the cover is a bit tacky but I am not anti-Kardashian. I think they have built a very astute business empire and it's a bit snobby to look down one's nose at them. I do think the fashion choices are a bit dreary. I did laugh when I saw someone say K&K don't realise that Anna is planning a Hunger Games tournament in December for all her 2014 cover stars. I still prefer Christy Turlington in the UK one...
ReplyDeletefrom conde nast website! $70 for the year not $18 a copy x
DeleteI'm bone tired and worrying myself into a state these days. Things like that Vogue cover aren't helping. What ever happened to Vogue as a soothing and beautiful fashion distraction? Those days are long gone, I doubt I'll renew my subscription when it comes up this summer.
ReplyDeleteI hope everything is going well at the Coal Face and thank goodness your garden has some rain.xox
I am sick of being tired and worrying. So ageing x
DeleteI love that last frock. I would be happy to own and wear something like that. I don't think KK is any kind of fashion icon, so I can understand why it outrages fashion people. I thinks she's more known for her lack of fashion sense. I think Gwyneth and Chris will be just fine. Most relationships run out of steam at some point, you just hope both sides can handle the end with good sense and grace. I could not get quince last week. The woman at the fruit shop blames 'Master Chef and all those cooking shows'. I will check again when I get back there because I need to make quince paste this year. Need to! xx
ReplyDeletequince is thin on the ground but I have my Sources!
DeleteI like Kim K. What's not to like? She made a lot of money for doing not much at all. Given the chance I'd do that too. And I love Kanye. I have all his albums and for some reason people are always surprised when they hear that. Maybe I will think about GETTING a Vogue subscription!
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up FF!! LovT
ReplyDeletegood x
DeleteYes, agree with why everyone says ..KK's black underwear on show underneath that khaki string dress I dont know what the world is coming to ..
ReplyDeleteRe the cover what did Grace think? I keep asking yet no one answers
would be keen to now what Grace thought too x
DeleteWell clearly Anna called Kim and said, "Look, honey, I'm dying to see your underwear. Come to lunch!"
ReplyDeleteToo funny LPC!!!
DeleteI really enjoyed this writer's thoughts on the whole cover controversy:
ReplyDeletehttp://goodmenproject.com/featured-content/why-are-people-so-pissed-about-kim-kardashian-and-kanye-wests-vogue-cover-shesaid/
going to read now!
DeleteLove your blog. There's always something inspiring in your post. So heartwarming that you adore your son, that's fabulous. Who else would introduce me to the news of "conscious uncoupling".
ReplyDeleteC in Phila
yes I'd never heard that either!
Deletei also wonder like smr what grace thought of that cover. i love anna but i don't like this cover. i think it is boring. i am going to consciously go into the garden and cut some roses now. tty soon. x
ReplyDeleteHa! just consciously ironed!
DeleteGreeks have loved quince since way back. If there are no fresh quince available run into any good deli or efficient supermarket and look for "kythoni" jams, preserves or dessert spoon (we grew up being served kythoni on a dessert spoon (so not really much to chew) but it was sugary sweet and delicious. Need a glass of water afterwards but it satisfies you. Hope you enjoy it. Den x
ReplyDeletethanks for this excellent tip! x
DeleteEven in ending her marriage, Gwynnie does it better than the rest of us. How could we have doubted it?! Belated birthday wishes to my little fellow Aries, Toddler FF. I still remember ringing you in the hospital when he was first born! Seems like yesterday. Buphee xxx
ReplyDeleteOh we ended OUR marriages really nicely too BUPHEE!!!!!! I remember you calling me. What a day. I am so lucky. I think of you a lot take care darling xxxxx
DeleteI would like to know of those "outraged" by the Kim cover, how many actually have subscriptions? The print media world is a sinking ship and the Kardashians sell. Also, I see Vogue's (current) focus as reporting on the intersection of pop culture and fashion. One cannot argue that Kim and Kanye are irrelevant in the world of pop fashion.
ReplyDeleteI have a subscription and I'm excited to read and look. When Kanye had his '80s Milan phase, I had one shortly after. He plays an ass but I find him endlessly fascinating.
It might be time for Ms. Wintour to liquidate that ensemble.
Good point re subscribers. I have to subscribe because otherwise it costs $17.95 at the newsagents!
DeleteI am not impressed with KK on the cover of Vogue. Bring back the models but I will continue my sub. It will be interesting to see if the circulation goes up with KK on the cover. Love in a Cold Climate is one of my favourite books and I recently reread it in a period of extreme stress and despair and it really offered a bit a respite from life. Have you read Don't tell Alfred and The Blessing ?
ReplyDeleteno but I must!!!
DeleteI'll bet that cover sells a lot of magazines, which is ultimately what Anna Wintour is tasked with. And I say this as someone who is no fan of any of those K folks.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this insight x
DeleteFF
ReplyDeleteHave to let you know that here in the Adelaide Hills a lot of people have quince trees on their property and, as they are not exactly a highly sought-after fruit, you cannot even give them away if you don't like them. Even the cows in the paddock across the road from us wouldn't touch them after masses of them fell out of the trees onto the ground last week. They would simply sniff them and continue to munch the grass.
It remains an impossible problem of getting the items to those that need them, isn't it?? If some Einstein could solve that dilemma I think they would indeed hold the key to many of the world's problems.!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday to Master FF.
Melody
why aren't they sought after? they are so good! thanks M x
DeleteNot really sure what Anna is up to with that cover. My main objection is the fact that KK get so much coverage in all the other magazines that anyone who is really interested in them can get endless fodder from those sources. However - much as I think it possibly "lowers the tone" of Vogue I guess that at least they may provide a more balanced and erudite take on Kim and Kanye than one would get from the tabloids. I find them both quite tacky but give them credit for being pretty savvy business people as per this latest coupe. It will be interesting to see if Vogue suffers a backlash or if it will have the opposite effect and attract a whole new swathe of readers. I would love to know what Anna thought of that see-through outfit.
ReplyDeleteI think Anna thought it was silly x
DeleteI've got two words to say to you, Melody: Maggie Beer!
ReplyDeleteQuince paste is so delicious.
Sue
Even Maggie Beer doesn't want them if you try and give them to her shop for FREE!!!!!!!
DeleteI know, I tried.
LOL
Melody
Years ago my son and his friend discovered a quince tree down beside the creek that is a little way from our street, so I have my own secret stash of quinces and I do rather luff it ;)
ReplyDeleteNo real opinion on the Vogue cover, it will sell magazines I am sure. Kim's dinner frock was a poor choice, maybe she got conned byt he shop girl?
Consciously uncoupled, WTF? Bit sorry to hear about Gwynnie & Chris though, they seemed to be sticking up under the pressure but seemingly not.
I am endlessly fascinated by the Mitfords, I must get my hands on a copy of Love in a Cold Climate.
I too am endlessly fascinated by them. I need to see Charswood next time I am in UK x
DeleteLove to see that Love in a Cold Climate! I'll have to hunt that down. That ASOS frock is so DA and would be perfect excuse to have a Downton party! Good eye FF!
ReplyDeleteamazon.com.uk will have it!
DeleteWhen it comes to quince it's every woman for herself. Too funny. Get poaching those gritty grainy lovelies. Xxx
ReplyDeletecan't wait x
DeleteKim needs to learn to change out of her gym attire before throwing a lacey number on top and dining with anna. Imagine the stench! lol Kanye must be a vampire- there's no reflection in the mirror. also way too much photoshopping in that image- even the image on the iPad is a crop of the big picture. Look closely all is not as it seems! I like the Kardashians, but they are a marketing machine!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to my issue.
DeleteA hilarious reply to Gwyneths 'conscious uncoupling' blog post in The New Yorker.... nypost.com/2014/03/27/a-working-moms-open-letter-to-gwyneth-paltrow/
ReplyDeletethanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm back and catching up on everything. I find myself unreasonably disappointed in Anna for relenting and putting KK on the cover. Who knew?! BUT it won't stop me buying Vogue that's fo shaw!
ReplyDeleteNNxx
It sort of doesn't bother me! x
DeleteHey FF!
ReplyDeleteI really & truly (or should I say CONSCIOUSLY ) unsubscribed from American Vogue after 25 years of receiving it. As I said on my Twitter page "NOW is the (Anna) Wintour of my discontent"
I was already totally over the constant sycophantic placement of celebrities instead of models on the covers, month after month, year after year. Kim & Kanye, with selfies of their selfies, poor baby in tow, were the last straw for me.
British Vogue is much better anyway!
PS. Love in a Cold Climate is one of my favourite books :-) xxSP
