Royal Baby News and Other Stuff.

Yesterday I caught up with some Fellow Kindy Mums to toast the new Royal Baby. Exciting!
I wore Pink. With Sequins. Seemed wrong not to really.
As usual Kate's hair was 11/10
And I freaking luff George. Too Cute.
I am old enough to remember what Di and Fergie wore when leaving hospital. I made my Mum buy me all the Royal Baby magazine souvenir specials…those were the days.
Let's re-live the hospital steps photo call magic:
Luffed the Dynasty Di look. All that Volume in her 'do and those giant shoulder pads.
And who can forget Fergie's YSL couture phase?
Not me.
Wonder if she's still got that jacket?
My Maitai giant scarf ring arrived. It's pink and I can tell we'll be very happy.
Risked Friday's scary deluge for lunch at Fat Noodle with my girl friends. This laksa was 11/10.
I gave Baby C a pink puffy vest last year and am thrilled she's wearing it. Look:
And when it comes to puffy vests, Age is no Barrier.
See:
Last year I posted about an orphanage in Nepal called Buddhist Child Home. The building is still standing but the food prices have skyrocketed so that the children could face starvation.
I know. As if they haven't been through enough.
You can help them by making a direct donation here.
I saw Testament of Youth on Saturday and give it 5 stars. It's based on the memoirs of Vera Brittain who was a nurse in France during WW1. It's  incredibly moving and beautifully shot. The hospital scenes at the front are pretty confronting. Vera's dad is played by Noah from The Affair.
Run Don't Walk.
Let me know the moment we know the baby's name.
That is All.

  1. Hello FF.

Mr. FF's Italian right? Could he recommend places to see and things to eat in Venice for a two day stay? Not looking for sit down dinners, more local specialties.

    Help!

    1. he says go to Cafe difori in St Mark's square for a coffee and then have a drink at Harry's bar.

    2. Oh, you can also drink at the bar at Caffe Florian ... if you sit at the actual bar... go inside turn to the left. We did it one evening, about 10 euros for a glass of Prosecco but served with very superior bar snacks. We rated it more highly than Harry's bar where we had the previous drink ;)

    3. We loved a place called Al Covo, a bit out of the usual tourist haunts, not far from Arsenale - you could try googling it. The chef is Venetian and his wife Texan. Super couple with super food - supporters of locavore foods. Happy times! Pammie

  2. Indulge me a moment of sentiment FF, because I truly believe Diana would have adored her grand-daughter and once again, there is another occasion where her untimely death saddens me. I often think that Diana was too beautiful for the ugliness of the world and just as often I think that her beauty was what this world needed. And from Kate's point of view, what a fabulous MIL you would have in Diana! Now, all the maudlin aside, welcome to baby girl and let's wonder what shoes Kate was wearing because clearly they weren't LKB's Sledges (and I know this because I have a pair and I bought mine from the same LKB store that Kate bought hers). All the big issues, right here... xox

  4. Love the royal baby post! The princess was born on my birthday and I was absolutely thrilled! My parents actually named me after a Greek princess who married an English prince and passed away the year I was born (Princess Marina - 1906-1968). I think she was the Duchess of Kent? I can't wait to hear the name of the new little princess. I love princesses! Still love reading your blog after all these years. Marina :-) (aka Alexandria Emporium).

  8. I'm so excited and can't wait for the name. I hope it's Diana something but I just don't think it will be. love the pink puffer. What was the temp when Mr. FF was sporting his olive puffer? It's finally warm here and hallelujah because I was at wits end with the cold. Have been tempting fate and living dangerously as I've been cooking lots of carbs for other people but not eating any of it. Wonder how long this can go on.

  14. Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. How wonderful.
I know that what I see of Kate and Will is most likely highly edited and not exactly "real" I still get the feeling from them that they are very genuine and seems like they are handling all this very well. Diana would be proud of them. The Queen must be very happy to see all this.
I have no connections to anything British, and I am very happy to see William so solid. Somehow, Diana's death affected me. We were the same age and I have 2 boys, just like her. I connected with her even though I'm a Yank. Seeing William and his lovely little new family is healing and helps me to know her boys are going to be ok. Amie

  15. I'm a little sad they didn't have another boy. Nothing better than brothers close in age (from my own experience). I have a dissenting (and probably unpopular!) view on Diana - I don't think she would have aged well. She was a fantastic media star, but always seemed like she was a better person in public than private to me. Sounds harsh, but I think she found her power and used it to play the media well and I think the adulation replaced the real love she missed in her life. No doubt she had an unfortunate privileged upbringing and was far too young and unformed to be prepared for the whirlwind of her married life and clearly she didn't receive good guidance. She clearly loved her boys, but I wonder if she would have coped with her star fading.

    1. Love this thoughtful comment. I am biased towards boys too, being the mother of one, but think they will have more kids.

That is fascinating re Diana. I think she would have aged well- her mother looked beautiful later in life.

Would her star have faded I wonder?

      Much to contemplate!

    2. I didn't mean "age well" in the looks sense, more that I don't think she would have aged gracefully (though I hate that term). I think it would have been inevitable that she became less interesting over time and she would not have been able to stage manage her image so well in the modern age. But maybe then she would have had a happier life.... Clive James has written some very interesting pieces about her. I feel sorry for her family, as I'm sure it becomes hard to separate the memories of the real person from the public commodity over time. I love the photos you posted as I remember all the commemorative issues - my Nan used to buy 3: one for herself and one for my sister and me to keep as she was sure they would be collectors' items!

    3. so interesting. Maybe she would have found love and been happier to take a back seat? We'll never know…I made my mum get the weekly, woman's day and new idea!!!

  19. Love all those pics of Diana and Fergie. I was so into her Dynasty hair back in the day, she looked beyond glamorous. I wish she would've kept that look! Very happy W&K had a girl, and that they named her Charlotte, I have a Princess Charlotte that lives with me too. Ha. I think Kate is on a mission to have at least 3 kids if not 4, what do you think? xx
