Standard Issue Queen Hair.

Something very exciting has happened. For a brief moment in time it's stopped raining! Hooray.
Meanwhile remember this turquoise necklace?
Wheeled it out again yesterday to match with a Missoni cardy
Wore it to see Armour. Totally deserving of its Oscar and Palm D'whatsy from Cannes.
The last few scenes are still playing on my mind. And the couple's apartment in Paris is pretty amazing too. 5 stars People. Run Don't Walk.
All the rain was conducive to a few of my favourite past times, like a bit of minor Decluttering
and baking
and bread making (gave this to my friend M to cook in her own oven for a family lunch)
and roasting
 and quaffing
 Everything is so green
Queen Beatrix, whose hair I admire enormously is abdicating in April
Her son will become King. His title at the moment is - prepare yourselves emotionally-
Prince of Orange.
Best title EVER.
I luff it how Beatrix wears Standard Issue Queen Hair:
as endorsed by Our Queen-
and my late Grandmother.
Wasn't our Martha quite the sort back in her modelling days?
Her hair was pretty high too. Look:
Can't wait to take this one back to the beach later this month
Good episode of Downton last night. Lots of Drama. Deadset handy that Lord  G has access to the Home Secretary at a moment's notice.

    1. just started few weeks ago- everything comes to Australia late.

And we pay hand over fist for groceries and air freight magazines. Case you're wondering.

  2. FF I thought of you this morning when I saw on tv a discussion on women without children & how they are treated by others, after Helen Mirren recently spoke about it in an interview with Vogue UK. Clearly it's on Helen's mind after reading about this very issue on your blog a few weeks back.

I am home from work today so I'm taking inspiration from you and doing some de-cluttering.

Glad to hear the rain has eased in Brisbane, according to the weather man, we have some nice sunny weather to look forward to this week in Hobart.

  3. Hi FF,

Luff finding a new post when I check in.

The Biblical rain has been quite something down here in NSW too (40 days and 40 nights, really? Jackie have mercy!), we even lit our fire on Fri night! So it's been oodles of baked comfort food all weekend. Tried a version of Jamie's baked fruit on Fri night, then Ladybird Johnson's Lemon Bundt Cake on Saturday (oh the halcyon days of 10 egg yolks in a cake!) and on Sun morning I made your crusty bread for our breakfast (to have with the 10 egg white scrambled eggs leftover from LBs cake) and it didn't let me down, so quick and so yum!

Your garden is looking fab, as are your decluttered closets! Tho I imagine they never spin too far out of a control as you seem like you're v all over the nasty business of clutter :)

Hope your Monday is off to a flying start,
    Nx

  4. Ah, luff the Queen Hair. My mother had hair like that Back In The Day. Once weekly "shampoo & set" then slept with toilet paper wrapped around her head for the rest of the week. The necklace and Missoni cardi were Made For Each Other.

  9. That's great hair. It will stand up to any crisis. Your garden is looking so lush. I'm v. envious. Mine is still crispy fried, not enough rain. Martha had good cheekbones, there's a photo of her somewhere wearing hot pants when she was a stockbroker on Wall Street in the early 70's. Her biography made for interesting reading, although I preferred Estee Lauders, which was equally interesting (plus she didn't feel the need to stab people in the back to get ahead...). Such an inspiring businesswoman. xx

  10. Separated at birth? Can you please cross check a photo of Queen Beatrice and your doll from a couple of posts ago. I deadset knew that doll reminded me of someone. Must have been the standard issue royal hair.

Speaking of hair your garden isn't the only thing that's growing these days, baby FF's locks are looking lovely, I hold hope for I have what can only be described as a little bald baby.

    2. Never fear: both my daughters were bald as eggs well past the first year. The older one's hair is so curly that she didn't get her first haircut till age 4. But both are now teenagers with what can only be described as Superior Hair, and lots of it!

    3. My daughter is now 21. She didn't have hair until she was nearly 3. At her 3rd birthday she had these pathetic little wisps while her kindy friends bolted around with plaits to their waist. She now has hair so thick it takes an hour with the hair dryer and has to get it thinned by the hair dresser. Oh, and she didn't walk until she was 14 months. I don't think there's one rule for our babies...! xx

    4. All the babies in our family for generations are bald as bandicoots till they're well over a year old. But when it finally grows in it's thick and lush. Older granddaughter has never had her hair cut and she's now 8 so it's long and beautiful and the longest strands are quite fair at the ends - her baby hair. The younger one decided to give herself a haircut when she was about three but it's grown back long and blonde. Although for awhile after, it was very spikey, quite goth. Definitely not your standard issue queen hair! Best wishes, Pamela

  12. My word, you are a productive lady. You give Martha a run for her $$.
I luff things that remind me of my (maternal) grandparents - Her: face flannels, accompanying her to the hairdressers while her hair was set, the smell of baby powder.
    -Him: heirloom tomatoes.

  13. Your garden is looking very lush and green. You are so brave with colour, I sometimes wish I was too but I'm brave with fashion in other ways.

I bought many new pairs of shoes recently and I keep looking at the piles of boxes in my bedroom thinking I will have to sort it out. But your decluttering has inspired me to get a move on. I am going to put on some music and make it happen. Decluttering is good for the soul after all.

  27. I would totally buy FF nail polish. Sure to offer minimal chipping and superior range of colours. Downtown is a worldwide phenomenon but you have to be very careful where people are at. In New York recently and totally gave away latest plot development to poor guy I was on a food tour with. He was devastated and so was I!

  32. Years ago when Tony Blair first became leader of the Opposition he had to establish contacts on the Continent, so went to his first Euro reception there. He tried to meet as many people as he could but was a little intimidated by it all. While standing by the buffet he found himself near a pleasant well-turned out woman of middle age and started talking to her. After chatting for a few minutes he realised he hadn't introduced himself. So after telling her he was Tony Blair, leader of the Opposition in Britain, she replied, "I'm Beatrix". He chatted a bit longer and then said, "And what do you do, Beatrix?" The reply, "I'm Queen". The really nice thing is that Tony Blair told this joke about himself. Best wishes, Pamela

  35. I luff this post - Standard Issue Queen Hair ! You should get a job as a scriptwriter FF.

Just saw John Kerry on the news and he almost qualifies for SIQH too. Helen Mirren was also interviewed on her upcoming role as The Queen in a West End play and she looked the business.

Martha Stewart was gorgeous back in the day, and with superior hair too.

By the way, I saw your twin on the train yesterday - blonde pony tail, lovely sequin top, fabulous handbag & shoes, skinny leg pink jeans AND she had a pink phone !

Am enjoying reading all the comments.
